Rereading the Nature of Atomic Doom Towns

My article in the Environmental History Gallery is an academic version of some of the research resulting from the Nevada Test Site Oral History Project. My research on “rereading” the photographic record of testing sparked an interest in trying to use an the amazing visual sources of atomic testing as the basis of a different kind of history. I found inspiration in the Oxford Graphic Histories and books like Abina and the Important Men. Doom Towns is the result of my effort to create a book that blended traditional academic research and writing with graphic representation and sequential narrative.
